For this third day of racing in the Grand Prix Guyader, in the bay of Douarnenez, the wind Gods proved to be fairly discreet after initially playing hard-to-get. With a single race run today, the provisional overall ranking had little chance of getting upset. And though Courrier Dunkerque is still leading the way ahead of Groupama 34 and Sodebo, it is worth noting a very fine victory for Ile de France, skippered by the lovely Jimmy Pahun.
On the pontoons this morning, the crews waited patiently. Whilst the fleet of Dragons left the dock in good time, the eight one-designs remained lined up nicely in front of the organisation's tents. This short, improvised break enabled some to chew the fat about all manner of sports from PSG's terrible match, to the umpire Leonardo, to the motorcycle grand prix and the young Marquez, leader of the championship...
It wasn't until around 1330 hours, that the fleet finally made it to the race zone, with the race start given an hour later, after that of the Dragons, who were beginning to find the time was dragging.
In a fairly shifty wind, both in terms of strength and direction, the places behind the leader were constantly changing.
Though Groupama 34 was positioned in second place at the end of the first lap, it was the Omanis who moved up into the runner-up spot, followed at the end by the ever opportunistic Courrier Dunkerque, decidedly very much at ease in the light airs.
Third at the finish, Franck Cammas remained very positive however: "After some breezy races in La Trinité, it was interesting to sail in light airs. We're still lacking a bit of consistency and success too at times. However, we're making headway within the fleet which, though small in size, is very uniform and qualitative".
Whilst the fleet of M34s will leave Douarnenez tomorrow, bound for Camaret, it will be a shorter course due to the gale forecast in the evening. As such the crew of Groupama would like to thank the organisers of the Grand Prix Guyader, for the quality of the welcome from the volunteers and the general good humour, which reigned throughout this event, the latter making remarkable gains in international prowess year on year.

Pour cette troisième journée de course du grand prix Guyader dans la baie de Douarnenez, Eole s'est montré assez discret après s'être fait quelque peu désirer. Avec une seule manche courue, le classement général provisoire avait peu de chance d'être bouleversé. Et si Courrier Dunkerque mène toujours la danse devant Groupama 34 et Sodebo, on notera la très belle victoire d'Ile de France skippé par le très sympathique Jimmy Pahun.
Sur les pontons ce matin, les équipages se sont montrés patients. Alors que la flotte des Dragons avait quitté le quai de bonne heure, les huit monotypes restaient sagement alignés devant les tentes de l'organisation. Cette petite pose improvisée permettait aux uns et aux autres d'échanger sur tout et n'importe quoi pourvu qu'il s'agisse de sport : le match nul du PSG, l'arbitre, Leonardo, le grand prix moto et le jeune Marquez, leader du championnat...
Ce n'est que vers 13h30 que la flotte rejoignait enfin le plan d'eau pour un départ donné une heure plus tard, après celui des Dragons qui commençaient à trouver le temps long.
Dans un vent assez irrégulier, tant en force qu'en direction, les places derrière le leader allaient régulièrement changer.
Si Groupama 34 pointait en deuxième position à l'issue du premier tour, ce fut ensuite Oman qui s'empara de la place de dauphin puis, sur la fin, les toujours opportunistes Courrier Dunkerque, décidément très à l'aise dans le petit temps.
Troisième à l'arrivée, Franck Cammas restait cependant très positif : « Après des régates de brises à La Trinité, il était intéressant de naviguer par petit temps. Nous manquons encore un peu de régularité et parfois de réussite. Mais nous progressons au sein d'une flotte, qui à défaut d'être nombreuse, est très homogène et qualitative ».
Alors que demain la flotte des M34 va quitter Douarnenez pour Camaret sur un parcours raccourci pour cause de coup de vent annoncé dans la soirée, l'équipage de Groupama tenait à remercier les organisateurs de ce grand prix Guyader pour la qualité de l'accueil des bénévoles et la bonne humeur générale qui règne dans cet événement qui, année après année, prend une ampleur internationale remarquable.
