Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie, New Zealand's Olympic Gold medallists from 2012, finished fifth and first women in the Italian 470 Nationals at Riva del Garda over the weekend, winning the penultimate race.

Si è disputata nel week end -presso la Fraglia Vela Riva - la terza regata nazionale della classe olimpica 470, manifestazione impreziosita dalla presenza di alcuni equipaggi stranieri in vista della settimana olimpica "Garda Trentino Olympic Week", che inizierà sull'Alto Garda il prossimo mercoledì 8 maggio. Tra i partecipanti più medagliati sicuramente le neo-zelandesi Jo Aleh e Polly Powrie, oro olimpico a Londra, a Riva del Garda quinte assolute e protagoniste di un primo nella penultima regata.

Grazie al generoso vento dell'Alto Garda, si sono disputate il numero massimo di 6 prove con 3 gare per ogni giornata, in condizioni meteo eccellenti sia per il tempo che per il vento. Nel primo giorno si sono svolte tre prove con vento da sud che, in particolare nell'ultima regata, è stato un po' instabile di direzione, mentre nel secondo giorno è stato protagonista un bel vento da nord con intensità dai 10 ai 14 nodi. Dall'inizio della manifestazione parecchi i cambi in classifica nelle posizioni da podio, con il crollo degli spagnoli Barreiros-Curbelo (nella top 10 delle maggiori regate 2013, con il timoniere Barreiros olimpico a Londra 2012, assestati poi oltre il decimo posto. Alla fine i più regolari sono risultati gli svizzeri Branchli-Hassuer (altro equipaggio olimpico a Londra 2012), che a parte un iniziale tredicesimo non sono mai andati oltre il terzo parziale (13-2-2-2-3-1); secondi ad un solo punto i francesi Bouvet-Mion, mentre i nostri Matteo Capurro e Matteo Puppo (YC Italiano) sono sempre stati in zona podio, concludendo ad un buon terzo generale con parziali abbastanza regolari (2-8-3-3-6-4). Secondi italiani, sesti in generale, Falciatelli-Clementi. Poi ancora stranieri con spagnoli e brasiliani fino ad arrivare al nono posto assoluto e terzo posto dei soli italiani con Alfredo Capodanno-Marco Gianini, penalizzati da una squalifica nell'ultima prova. Prime ragazze italiane Roberta Caputo-Giulia Paolillo, undicesime assolute e seconde femmine in generale dietro alle olimpioniche neozelandesi. Alla Fraglia Vela Riva torneranno protagonisti i 470 olimpici dal prossimo 8 maggio fino a domenica 12 grazie alla garda trentino Olympic Week, unica occasione in Italia per vedere regatare nelle stesse acque tutte le classiche olimpiche insieme.

National 470 Regatta: Caputo – Puppo first of the Italians and third overall behind Branchli-Hassuer of Switzerland and Bouvet- Mion of France respectively.
The third national regatta of the 470 Olympic class was held at Fraglia Vela Riva at the weekend. This event was enriched with the presence of some foreign crews here for the Olympic week “Garda Trentino Olympic Week” which starts on Wednesday, May 8th on Upper Garda. Among the most decorated of the participants were New Zealanders Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie, gold medallists at the London Olympics and who came fifth overall at Riva del Garda with a win in the penultimate race.
With the abundant winds on Upper Garda, the maximum number of legs were accomplished with three races each day with excellent wind and weather conditions. Three legs were completed on the first day with winds from the south which at times, especially in the last race, were a bit unstable in direction. On the second day, however, the wind was from the north reaching 10-14 knots. There were quite a lot of changes in the standings from the beginning of the event to the final places on the podium with Spaniards Barreiros – Curbelo falling to below tenth place. They had been in the top ten of the major regattas in 2013 with helmsman Barreiros, competing at London 2012. In the end it was the Swiss Branchli-Hassuer ( another Olympic crew from London 2012), who took first place. Apart from an initial thirteenth, they never went lower than a third partial (13-2-2-2-3-1 ). In second place by only one point, were Bouvet-Mion of France while our own Matteo Capurro and Matteo Puppo (YC Italiano), were always within sight of a medal, finishing third showing fairly good consistency in their partials (2-8-3-3-6-4). Second of the Italians were Falciatelli-Clementi who finished in sixth place. Spain and Brazil took the next positions then Alfredo Capodanno- Marco Giannini of Italy in ninth place. They were penalized by a disqualification in the last race. First of the Italian women were Roberta Caputo- Giulia Paolillo who came in eleventh overall and the second female crew behind the New Zealander Olympians.
The 470 Olympic class returns to Fraglia Vela Riva on May 8th-12th for Garda Trentino Olympic Week, the only chance in Italy to see all the Olympic classes race together on the same stretch of water.
